Now that I've had some sleep, it's time to reflect on the #24hourgamingmarathon
I have to admit, I completely doubted myself. I'm a person who loves to sleep, so the idea of staying up for 24+ hours made me want to vomit.
I didn't think I could even play for that amount of time, especially since I had never played #videogames for more than maybe 6 hours.
But... I did it!
As you can tell in that photo, I look zonked! I was ready to pass out, but I learned a lot about games, what I like, connecting with people online, and I think I actually improved tremendously in just a day.
After getting over the initial shock of completing this #challenge, I think there are a few lessons to be learned and insights I've walked away with. Here are the top 3:
- Marketing is still a big deal 📣
- Not everyone belongs on the stream 🙅
- Believe in the impossible 🦄
Every time I had a surge of new viewers on my stream and had a chance to chat and connect with new folks, it was a result of posting to Reddit or Instagram or elsewhere on the interweb. Just like any other industry or platform, you can't just build it and expect people to come. You have to invite them!
I had my first interaction with a challenging viewer. I anticipated trolls and meanie-faces early on in this #pilotidea, but this was my first encounter with (what I thought was) a well-meaning kid who was simply interrupting the stream. I'd call myself someone who doesn't like letting people down, so it was really hard to say no and block the user from chat. Especially, when the user kept creating alternate accounts to rejoin. But I feel like I handled it well and stuck to my guns rather than indulging a user for more viewers. Goes to show that the community I want on my channel isn't for everyone.
It seems kind of ridiciulous in a venture about doing what seems impossible, taking big risks, and getting outside my comfort zone, that I would even need to remind myself, but hey, I'm a human, too. It's still hard to believe what others have claimed impossible or even what I've told myself is an impossibility. A week ago, I would have absolutely announced that a 24-hour stream was impossible, and yet, here I am, on the other side of that challenge.
The best news is I met another conditional, 🙌 more in the next post.
